Who We Are
TutorSmart in partnership with partners, schools, and community centers, is pivoting to provide virtual as well as in person support for students during the pandemic.
Students across the TPS district engage with teachers and volunteers throughout the week to get small group tutoring in the areas where they need it, help with homework on an ongoing basis, and to engage with activities and enrichment during after school hours.
TutorSmart is looking for volunteers to help staff the after school homework help stations (both in person and online) and engage with those students who need help with their assignments. A lot of our kids are feeling isolated and overwhelmed by their current circumstances and we are looking for compassionate leaders who are willing to listen and be a mentor to the students who are often times feeling a little lost and overwhelmed.
Provide mentoring relationships that help students grow and flourish knowing that someone is available after school who cares about them and their success.
Provide a virtual space where students who are struggling academically can get the help they need to be successful in school.
Provide opportunities for connecting students and adults who are interested in serving with the kids who need them the most.
We ask our volunteers to commit to specific times each week that they are available. You can volunteer for one to two hour shifts anytime between 1:00-6:00 pm Mondays through Fridays. Our kids need consistency and to know that people care about them and we need to be able to plan staffing appropriately throughout the week.
Right now, many of our opportunities are virtual but there are limited in person sites across the city that need your support. Training will be provided and you will be assigned a Lead Tutor Coordinator who will work with you to make the experience as valuable for you as it is our students.
There are many ways to help kids in our community. Its through the generosity of people just like you, that we are able to make a difference in the lives of so many students across the city.
